CATAMARCA
Lake’s Catamarca Pegmatite project is located in Argentina’s Catamarca Province, in an area known historically for small-scale production from lithium bearing spodumene pegmatites in the Ancasti Ranges.
The 100% owned Lake project covers 720 sq km. Literature reviews, satellite image studies and field visits helped identify a series of pegmatite swarms with lithium bearing potential over a belt of approximately 150km. Outcropping pegmatites with coarse grained spodumene crystals 30-70cm were observed in a number of locations.
Latin Resources (ASX:LRS), which holds adjoining leases in the same belt, announced on 14 June 2016 results of 4.9% LiO2 to 7.1% LiO2 from samples of spodumene from old mine workings, as part of exploration applications over approximately 760 sq km. These exploration areas have been since granted and approved for drilling activities.
A LRS drilling program in Q2 2017 yielded high grades over relatively narrow widths, in lithium terms, of up to 9m true thickness, with intercepts of 3m at 2.98% Li2O, 5.2m at 1.62% Li2O, 6m at 2.40% Li2O, and 7m at 2.17% Li2O.
These narrow veins appear closely associated and were intercepted at respective depths of 19m, 20m, 29m and 39m. Further drilling is planned.
